so, apparantly the law passed in california. U cant run away forever, need to fight. similar laws seem to have come to pass in canada, where they seemingly even assign caste to people it seems.
All of it also comes from the stupid mindset of not encouraging ic marriages, which really is the only solution. ic polity. Failure of India to settle its faultlines and failure of H’s to settle this has offered modern day politicians inside India and outside a handy tool to play their divide and rule games but trad idiots and others still live in denial of basic politics.
BJP helped back a person to wakfboard member in karnataka, the person is now backing congress. modi’s bjp has done worst of both, not delivered prosperity and neither solved issues, only inflamed people against H’s in a massive way to boost himself to power. After he leaves, the attitude he set about others, policies etc, wont end, so one has to live with that. not to mention, his embrace of caste politics, denial of bail, on sc/st act through constitutional amendment, 10% quota, now gave others ideas to break 50% quota break , others are now demanding more. Modi, a man of no principles, is leading us down a terrible path. congress and rahul gandhi by demanding (rights according to population) have shown that principles was only useful when in power, out of power, he will throw away everything.

Modi the moron cant seem to understand that, principles are things that need to be cultivated, it is not a given. confucius is useful in that he teaches us to cultivate this in ourself and in society as a whole. Though he thinks it is fundamental, which i think is not true. what is true is envy. but perhaps even that is true at a certain level of iq. which brings me to a decision i am now forced to agree with razib on. one has to bring iq back to the conversation, in absense of that, the left turn everything into one of discrimination and prejudice. One cant win that debate, i concede on this.

Razib you made a post years back in 2018 about melanin index and stuff and I wonder if you still think it’s legit?.
.

.
.

The study you posted said that Tamil Brahmins had a lower melanin index than UP Brahmins…the population they descend from. It also said that Reddies were lighter than UP Brahmins despite the huge Steppe discrepancy. Was that legit or does mea melanin index mean something else?

Looks like modi saw the Karnataka results and decided that incumbency against state bjp is not enough. He also needs to get in the act. The 20% tax on outward remittances plus phase out of 2000 denomination currency bills/notes are almost uniformly being criticized. Not sure what is the thinking behind these decisions without adequate planning and public confidence building.
2024 looks increasingly like 2004 🤦‍♂️.

Conclusion

In this article, we have shown the various projections of the populations of Western Uttar Pradesh. It shows that the region is going to be close to, if not actually, Muslim majority by 2061.

Bro, stop worrying about this stuff. Fertility is something that is very difficult if not impossible to increase through government policy, many have tried. Even socialist Romania only achieved transient success (before women figured out ways to circumvent pronatalist policies).

Even changing Hindu fertility rates COULD in theory be done, India could not do it, because it is a democracy with a weak and fractious state.

What is the point of worrying about something you can’t control? Just have your kids and move on with your life.

Agree with not worrying about things you can’t control and having kids. But having and advocating for more kids is also something under our control. Obviously we have more control over former than later. Hopefully setting the right example will convince other folks. But worrying is definitely the worst option.

Well it isn’t a major mainstream cultural phenomenon I guess, but a number of right-wing UC Hindus are Aryan supremacists. Turns out feudal caste ideology lends itself quite well in the modern political context to support for fascism…

Half your comments on BP are just “UC” “Dalit” “Hindu Rashtra” “fascist” etc.
If you gave an alien/chatbot only NYT/WaPo/WSJ articles on India and asked it to converse, I’d expect comments like these.

Was hilarious watching you mald on the other post,

My arguments tend to rely on common sense and basic observations of reality. They tend to be repetitive because the other side doesn’t offer much of substance to create a need for new arguments. I note that you still haven’t explained how exactly Hindutva isn’t a fascist, caste supremacist ideology… Seems like I hit a nerve.

And yes, I hate Hindutva fascists who hate my caste, my race, and my language. Don’t argue they don’t, they prove it on daily basis. LOL

Why are you so triggered by outsiders not wanting to be part of your ethnic identity anyway? Dravidians aren’t your kinsmen.

While 35 year projections are just speculation, the trend can go either way (not just down). For example, Pakistan’s fertility rate and population growth, seems to have actually increased from 1.5% a year in the last census conducted in 2017 to almost 3% a year in the current 2023 census. Official numbers will be released next month., but population has grown from ~212 million to ~255 million in just 5 years (over a 20% increase in 5 years). You underestimate the combo of Islam+Indian culture on marriage and social pressure on women to reproduce. The only force that can counter this is women’s workforce participation rate that continues past the first child, which is quite low in entire Northern India.

Need to look at tfr not population growth, as that is driven partly by fluctuations in the size of previous generation in addition to immigration / emigration patterns and fertility rates.

for western countries perhaps that have larger generational gaps and lots of immigration. But for everyone else, growth % correlates to tfr and if growth % has increased, likely TFR has also increased especially when the increase is so significant. Growth% is also more reliable because its based on census, TFR is based on a small sample size.

On demography issue, we can tune into this in 10 yrs. After that, can lock the projection. Also, UP is a pretty big place, it actually deserves more seats, one can plan for redistricting. There is a solution if one intends to look for it. BJP is not interested in solutions, it is only interested in winning elections on dog whistles, on policy front it has nothing to show.

As i pointed out. one can impose severe punishment for teaching sharia or seeking such counsel. Islam as a religion is not the problem. Islam as it enforces its social logic even as a minority is unacceptable. One can even teach it. Nothing stops bjp from teaching world politics of various countries and in that, teach about islam and all its bashing there, in an objective way, without having to take a side turn of history. You can forthrightly say all that you want and also teach and make it part of syllabus, redistrict, create own institutions etc. All, if that is the aim. But if the aim is only to win elections and fool people and nothing else. you get what you get. what has bjp done on policy front.

One has to make criticism of sharia an absolute part of education system. And make it possible for ex muslims to come out.

Also, one good part of usa imposing caste law, means, India and its rightwing can use same idea of netowork based discrimination and coercion on part of minorities to make laws in this regard.

Out of the loop on this indian textbook thing.

Hinduism has a lot of bs as well ofc, but creationism is not something hindus care about generally.

The question of “why there is something rather than nothing” is not viewed primarily has a ‘creation’ type question in Hindu dharma.

Rather it is more pertains to why there is something rather than nothing in this present moment ie ‘consciousness.

The precise nature of the relationship of individuated consciousness to the god consciousness (i.e. the universe) is a matter of disagreement between the different darsana (so advaita for eg says its the same, dvaita says its seperated, vishistadvaita says its complicated etc).

Animals also have consciousness and humans aren’t fundamentally that different from animals since can be reincarnated as one etc. So it is not as big a theological problem for humans and animals to be the same class of being as it is for religions that have the concept of a ‘soul’ for humans but not for animals.

You are right. Hindus are not creationists so it’s more likely to be the anti-Western streak present among a large number of Hindu nationalists in particular and Indians in general. Usually it’s in terms of foreign policy. Iraq war, US support for Pakistan, USS Enterprise during 1971 war are common talking points but some people stretch to mean everything Western is bad. Oh no, a “Britisher” came up with the theory of evolution. It must be wrong then. Surprised they didn’t say some rishi muni living 1 million years ago originally “invented” the theory of evolution and the Britishers stole it or something. Very common cope among the whatsapp uncles.

The WhatsApp uncle evolution cope is that the Vishnu avatars represent evolution. (Since the first avatars is a fish, then reptile, then mammal etc)

But removing evolution from textbooks doesn’t fit into my mental model of how they think.

Similarly the articles are saying they cut pollution related chapters which doesn’t make sense given how pro renewable energy , rail electrification etc BJP have been. WhatsApp uncles will extol the values of vegetarianism etc.

Without additional information I am inclined to think this is a PR hit job.

It’s so cringe seeing all the Indians commenting on any Israel related video on YouTube. All the “India loves Israel”, or “India biggest supporter of Israel” comments. Like India-Israel relations are not even that close. India generally votes against Israel or at most remains neutral in the UN. But from the comments you would think India-Israel relationship is stronger than the one with the US. Yeah, I get why many Indian right wingers love Israel. Enemy of my enemy is my friend and all that but don’t think of him as your best friend lmao.

The ~20 seats in north, coastal and central KA out of 95 that bjp has won consistently stand out.

I think that’s the Faustian bargain Modi has to live with. From time to time, RSS will appoint a joker to oversee elections, and Modi/BJP has to suffer an electoral defeat to sideline that joker. Ram madhav was the previous one. Similar fate awaits Santosh.

Come lok sabha elections, yedi will be again be in charge of delivering the state to BJP. Since modi won’t take chances then.
