Following North Indian and South Indian twitter. Northies making “Agarwal Tweets Corner” and Baniya jokes. Southies writing essays on how time has come to move out of India soon after 12th Std itself.
Almost 50% of Indian-Americans are from South India (sorry Maharastrians – you are in my South India list). Add Gujarat – then almost 2 in 3 Indian-American are from these 7 states.
Also one of the reasons why there is almost no caste consciousness among American Indians – linking it to another topic at BP. All these 7 states have had the most documented and intense Hindu Reforms in the last 1200 years.
I doubt that Maharashtra number includes many Marathis. Most of them would be Gujaratis and Punjabis from Mumbai.
Delhi has around 9% share. I’d assume Mumbai also has a similar share.
An interesting thought experiment –
UP does seem to be getting its act together of late. What happens once UP reaches a level of economic development where huge swathes of people start migrating abroad instead of within the country?
I am not sure the west is ready to deal with our likes. Haha.
It is all about numbers, if number of Indians are about 1 %, it would not matter much, but if they are 10%, then all the subdivisions will show up, same for nationality.
New order for world will begin 100 yrs from now, If India can grow to 20_ trillion dollars in 100 yrs while maintaining dharmic primacy at level of culture and demography. Then with china, world will have shifted back to the mean to some degree, with west losing power relative to the world and the rest gaining power and wealth. New dynamics will be at play. As for pakis, they will follow what middle east does, hopefully. And middle east has to figure out their place in a world without oil. We are in a ride for something different for sure in decades to come.

My experience has been that American Maharasthrians are actually Sindhis from Bombay. I don’t know many actual Marathas in the Indo-American community.
Turns out, the Big Baniya is a simp too 🙂
Some of his messages to Shreya Ghoshal are hilarious.
Eww…

😂😂😂
Dravidians and their “imagined” communities…
like rahul DRAVID!!???
Is Dravid a honorary Dravidian, or too Brahmin(Aryan) to be incorporated?

” What happens once UP reaches a level of economic development”
Then Ugra will include them in his list of S-Indians…
Both of you have the same basic idea. You’re starting from the north, he’s starting from the south.
There’s going to be a beautiful Sangam in the end one day.
Only that everything in India start from the North anyway.
I hope the Sangam is in the middle and not in kumari kandam…
Kumari Kandam … you really know your Dravidians.
Wait till u hear my views on Bongs..

One wud think that future wud be bright as sun for mid-east deserts as they reap the solar energy fully.

Our numbers are 1 % and still the diaspora is as divided as it is. God forbid what sub divisions come up when we are 10 %
Lol baniya hatred continues, as usual. Truly the scapegoats of S Asia

I have met even a Pakistani Hindu who has family in Mumbai. Happens to be a Sindhi.
Mumbai is merchant caste Gujaratis and Sindhis as Delhi is to Khatris and banias
